ADULT: Wingspan 18-25mm. Greyish white forewings with 3 irregular black blotches along the costa of the forewing are the key ID characteristics of this common moth. The thorax is light grey with dark spots and the abdomen whitish. The blackish central crossband fades before meeting trailing edge and is variable in intensity and thickness. CHRYSALIS: Overwinters underground in this stage. LARVA: Feeds on a variety of crucifers. BEHAVIOUR: Frequently disturbed by day and attracted to light at night. HABITAT: Suburban areas including parks and gardens. FLIGHT PERIOD: Continuously brooded. April to September. STATUS: Common throughout. |
